"From Oppression to Recognition and Beyond" – Acknowledging that while some have been recognized, many others are patiently waiting for their turn, as they all equally deserve recognition for their shared volunteer-to-service lifestyle. The objective is to persist in identifying and nominating others for the acknowledgment they merit, in connection to the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas.



Papa S Ndiaye



PAPA S NDIAYE, a Senegalese native in Charlotte, North Carolina, initiated Juneteenth activities in 1996, partnering with organizations like The Park Ministries and local churches. He established THE JUNETEENTH FESTIVAL OF THE CAROLINAS, aiming to unify the African American community and promote Juneteenth as American history. Ndiaye dedicated 27 years to community service, organizing events, seeking sponsorships, and educating on African heritage. His efforts have impacted many lives and garnered numerous awards and recognitions, displaying his selfless dedication to the local community.



Sheriff Garry McFadden



The Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas collaborates with Sheriff Garry McFadden, known for his community work and law enforcement success. McFadden's team actively participates in the festival, displaying positivity and professionalism. With a distinguished career in law enforcement, including solving numerous murder cases, McFadden also volunteers extensively, exceeding requirements for the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.



Betty Jane “BEEJAY” CALDWELL



Betty Jane "BeeJay" Caldwell, a senior citizen, is a historian and community advocate in Huntersville, NC, with a passion for African American history. She has documented historical articles and received awards for her volunteer work, including being a sixth-generation descendant of the Eli Alexander Clan. Betty Jane has been recognized for her contributions to the community, including organizing Juneteenth celebrations and receiving the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for her volunteer service.



Donald Clodfelter II



Donald Clodfelter II, an 11-year-old CMS student, volunteered 270 hours as a "peacekeeper" during early mornings and after school. He is intelligent, academically smart, and believes in self-discipline and volunteerism. His parents are CMS teachers. Donald will receive the Gold President's Volunteer Service Award and represent the youth campaign at the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas.
